Marchesi di Gresy
La Serra Moscato d’Asti, 2004- Worth looking for at specialty
stores. Sweet and seamlessly elegant, the freshness and minerality
balanced perfectly with creamy wild honeyand sweet fruit. Delicate and
voluptuous all at one time. The Wine Diva plans on opening a bottle of
this with her traditional panforte on Christmas morning, a perfect
pairing with the honeyed dried fruit and hazelnuts in this Italian style
Christmas cake.
I know you really want to be at my place Christmas morning… don’t cha?

Martini Asti
Sparkling Wine, Italy (200ml)-Wine
Snobs look away!
I love this little bottle. I saw them appear on the LDB shelves just
before Christmas, in all their petite blue cuteness.
I had to have one.
It’s like a personal sized shot of sweetness (which I recommend you
serve with a lime wedge to cut some of that sweetness) with a screw top
capper designed to look like a cork. Are you kidding, how brilliant
would you seem at your next soiree, handing out these little babies with
coordinating blue bendy straws? (Straws not included)
Candied peaches, honey and sweet pink grapefruit with nice little
bubbles, and only 7% alcohol!
$3.45 each

Mionetto ‘Sergio
MO’ Extra Dry Prosecco- Creamy smooth, apple and citrus. Rich and
smooth in a bold masculine bottle that won’t horrify the boys at your
party!

Marquis de la Tour
Brut-France- Cheap and cheerful, I like to keep this sparkler around
to make pretty pinkish Kir Royals or brunch
style mimosas. A blend of the classic French varietals
Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc it has loads of delicate,
crisp, fresh citrus and orchard fruit, and at this price that you can
feel good about your excessive holiday spending.

Mateus Rosé,
Portugal-
Don't shoot the
messenger...sheesh, you're not the only one with flashback images of
that bottom-heavy Mateus bottle anchoring your parents dining
room table. But don't you think it's time to let bygones be?
Wine Diva was feeling quite
retro when she recently visited (I was too young to re-visit)
this cheerful and fresh rosé
sweetly tinted and brimming with
minerals, red berries, and citrus. You know what, this is a very
decent rosé,
a great price and a conversation piece!

'Mesh' Riesling, Eden Valley Australia, 2004- This riesling is
quite full-bodied (more Martha than Madonna) with lovely peach and
pit fruit aromas, lemon and lime and sweet spices. Very dry
style for those of you who insist you don't like 'sweet wines' and
cheek-sucking acidity.

Mission Hill Five Vineyards Pinot Grigio, Westbank BC, 2005-
The Mission Hill Pinot Grigio is a well-known BC staple and
this new vintage may well be better than the last!
In a word, fresh.
Ripe peaches, minerals, tropical fruit and peach blossoms. Lush and
creamy in the mouth with a crisp white grapefruit finish.
Stock up for those summer shin-digs, and don't worry if you forget
to bring the corkscrew.

Mission Hill,5 Vineyard Gewurztraminer 'limited release', 2004-A
recent trip to the stunning Mission Hill Winery had me awestruck. I had
visited before, but the touring, dining and tasting I did during my
visit convinced me of several things. One, how serious everyone attached
to Mission Hill is about the wine they produce as well as the food they
pair with it.
Two, how committed they are to the future and the relationships they
create. Three, they are serious about making good wine.
The '04 Gewurztraminer has aromas of green apples, rose petals, tropical
fruit and sweet Asian spices (perhaps a hint of the old favorite
licorice flavored candies, sen sen?).
The mouth is bold and dry with lime zest, grapefruit, white pepper and a
mildly boozy (hot) finish. Serious.

Mission Hill Reserve Sauvignon Blanc, Okanagan BC 2005-17% of this Sauvignon
Blanc was in contact with oak barrels-just enough to give it a bit of lushness.
Ripe gooseberry and hints of tropical fruits-pineapple and kiwi with grassy
Sauvignon aromas. Minerals and fresh citrus in the mouth
with a warm oily finish.

Mission Hill 'Oculus', Okanagan BC, 2003-
Wow. Serious wine ahead. No wonder Mission Hill is planning a
second winery (within the existing winery) solely for the
seriousness that is Oculus.
Is it primed to be the
next Opus One?
Bright red berry fruit, cassis and plums, chocolate, green bell pepper and
spice. Intense grip in the mouth, a bit boozy with dusty
tannins. The wine is still a baby and will improve even more with
some cellar time.(47%merlot, 25% cabernet sauvignon,
20%cab franc 8%petit verdot)

Dessert Wine
Mission Hill SLC Riesling Icewine, Okanagan BC, 2004-Simply lovely! I was
tasting this icewine with Tim Keller from Rare one restaurant in
Vancouver. Both of us had the same silly smile on our face as we tasted and
agreed that we always forget how good icewine can be until we taste it again.
The SLC is rich with baked apples, honey, peach/apricot and sweet tea.
Sensational!

Moselland Piesporter Michelsberg Riesling Kabinett, Germany, 2003-
I tasted this with a lineup of other international whites
along with a group of, well let’s say ‘not your typical riesling
drinkers’ and at the end of the tasting, this was their favorite wine,
and surprise…the cheapest!
Delicate aromas, white flowers citrus fruit and petrol, but in the mouth
is where it really sang. Lush peach compote, oily and minerally lime oil
and a gorgeous long crisp finish topped with just a hint of spice.
